International winners are dominating the first TriStar Lugano edition

Lugano, 23 June 2019 – On a wonderful summer day the first edition of the TriStar triathlon took place in Lugano. Numerous personalities from the region joined the race and the relay teams;  the major of the city Lugano Marco Borradori, Roberto Badaracco and many more.

Almost 250 athletes started the race at the beach of the Lido di Lugano to take this TriStar 55.5 challenge. The format leads the athletes with a 500m swim in the lake, a tough and picturesque bike course with 50km distance through the Valcolla region followed by the 5km run along the lake promenade  of Lugano. The unique arrival zone in the Ciani park just in front of the Villa Ciani was a nice merit after crossing the finish line.

Famous participants racing in the relay – international winners in single categories

Matteo Fontana from Italy took the overall first place with an advantage of 2 minutes with a total time of  2:05:09h, followed by the triathlon talent from the Ticino region Adriano Engelhardt. The strong Austrialian athlete Meredith Hill took the first place in the women’s category, she already had an margin of 14 secs after the swim and made a great race.

In the relay where each athlete is doing one discipline was the winner team «Dicastero Sport Lugano». The constellation of the strongest team was full of famous regional personalities; Chief of sports department Roberto Badaracco, member of the national council Rocco Cattaneo and Igor Zellweger. The team of the double Olympic champion Fabian Cancellara, the ex-swim champion Ivana Gabrilo and the Major of Lugano are ranked 6 in the relay category.
